It has been noted increasingly frequently of late that one of the better anti-theft devices you can have on your car is a manual transmission, since many would-be car thieves are flummoxed by the presence of a third pedal.
It turns out that a standard shift tranny is not the only way to make your car theft-proof these days. A young woman was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! today in Oakland. That, sadly, is not news. What is news that that she suffered a beating because the carjackers demanded to know how to defeat the wizardry of her exotic anti-theft measures that prevented her car from starting.

The magical theft preventer?
One of these:
Police said the 17-year-old opened the car door, demanded she get out and took her purse. Since the Lexus does not use a key to start, the 17-year-old had to ask her how to start the vehicle.

Ironic, because a manual gearbox couldn't save the PromotedBy mobile from being stripped and dumped in Berkeley.

I'd get a third pedal and a one touch smart button. Preferably hidden amount among a variety of buttons with a certain pattern. Bay Area/contra costa county opponaut?

Remindes me of the time about 10 years ago I was working valet at a golf resort and this guy had me go get his brand new M6. They had been just released and I was so amped to drive it. I grabbed the keys and sat in the driver's seat and hit the start engine button. Nothing happened and I started panicking because he was waiting back in the club drop circle. After what felt like forever ever the guy crossed the street to the back lot and got in the passenger seat and said "you got to press the break pedal down, put it in park, then push the start." The engine fired up and we both had a good laugh, easing my embarrassment. He still tipped me a 5 too ha ha

lol, I ride my bike frequently through there. I once rode past 2 people casually obliviously talking while someone's house has their doors wide open and alarms screaming. Walnut creek here.

Cool. If you ever ride up Pinehurst, there's a good chance I'll pass you (in my car). Don't worry, I'm good about coexisting with bikes on the road.

I have both.
My car is now immune to theft, I think I'll go park it somewhere seedy with the doors open and the radio on.
